4 Pre-conference workshop.

As at last years conference in Barcelona, the EU Reseach Programme funded ROLE project will be holding a pre-conference workshop at PLE2011 in Southampton.

The workshop is on the theme of ’Challenges of Designing and Evaluating Usability and User Experience for PLEs (U2X-4-PLE)’ at the PLE2011 conference. The organisers aim to bring out controversial methodological as well as conceptual issues in relation to design and evaluation of PLE user interfaces, thereby stimulating discussions that will advance this exciting research area. According to the ROLE project website, where there is more information on the workshop: “This one-day workshop will consist of short presentations of each accepted paper to set the stage. Ample time will be allocated for group discussion and activities.”

The workshop will be from 1400 – 1800 on Monday 11 July and is free to all conference delegates.

5. Conference Social Programme

We are organising a full social programme for the PLE2011 Conference. On the evening of Tuesday 12 July there will be a conference dinner followed by the RadioActive live DJ set with DJ Andrew Ravenscroft. The social evening is free for all conference delegates.

6. Invitation to publish your links to related PLE activities on our website

Please let us know if you would like us to publicise your PLE event, project news or other links that would be of interest to the PLE community as a whole.

7. If you need to be a presenter in order to attend a conference, there is still time (just) to submit a pecha kucha poster or demo proposal. Details under the call for contributions pages.

PLE_SOU: The PLE Conference Southampton 2011

Following the highly successful inaugural event in Barcelona (#PLE_BCN), the next PLE Conference will be held at the University of Southampton (#PLE_SOU) from July 11th – 13th 2011. The PLE Conference 2011 is intended to produce a space for researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas, experience and research around the development and implementation of PLEs – including the design of environments and the sociological and educational issues that they raise. Whilst the conference includes a traditional research paper strand, we also encourage proposals for sessions in different formats including workshops, posters, debates, cafe sessions and demonstrations. We aim to sustain the dynamic and interactive discussion environment established by the opening event in Barcelona in 2010.
